Summer is half over!

It's hard to believe that summer is half over already.  My little man arrived 18 days early, but all is well!  We are adjusting to life with a new baby in the house and I am beginning to think about the start of the year.  I met with my wonderful teaching partners and we worked on our teaching plan for the year.   I'm so excited about the things we have planned.  I've been looking at books for the beginning of the year that teach about rules and expectations (in a fun way of course).  I found a couple of books that look like fun to use Kevin Knows The Rules by Molly Dowd and Wiggles Learns The Rules At School by Heidi Butkus ( also the creater of Heidi songs which I LOVE)  If anyone has any other suggestions for great books to use when teaching rules, please let me know!  Off the feed the baby!

New Emergent Reader

I just posted a new emergent reader on TPT.  I'm so excited about this one!  Its about visiting the zoo, but I have included 3 levels of this reader.  It's perfect for differentiated instruction.

Bunnies!

I found the cutest poem about bunnies on the internet.  There was no name attached, so I'll just say it was an "author unknown".  We read it together in class (several times) with it projected on our big screen and then we clapped the syllables in the poem.  What a fun activity.  Tomorrow we will read it again and I will give each student a copy of the poem to highlight sight words.  I found the poem at http://www.canteach.ca/elementary/songspoems15.html

It was a super busy week at school, but it went quickly.  Next week is a lot of fun things: egg hunt, spring party, egg drop, and a day off at the end of the week!!!  I'm working on a substitue unit for my Teachers Pay Teachers store.  It should be done and up within the next couple of days.  I'm also finishing a five day unit for shared reading activities to go with the poem Little Boy Blue.  Stop by and check out my jellybean graph freebie in the TPT store and my other little readers.  Now I'm off to enjoy some time at the park with my little girls!

It's been a great first day of Spring Break! (even with all the rain)  I worked for a little while at the school and got some great ideas and books to use with my next week's unit Down on the Farm.  I hope to post a couple of these activities on my blog, I will also be putting some things on my new Teachers Pay Teachers store.  Now it's time to enjoy some more time with my girls.

I did it!

My friends have been after me for months (maybe even a year or two) to create a blog.  So here goes :)  We are getting ready to have spring break, I can't wait to do some things around the house and create some new booklets for school.  Hopefully I will get a lot done!
